Found this short video of a Japanese music siren today, has a good close up of the rotors spinning up and the stators moving to cover and uncover the ports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq32VQZwRx0

That is positively creepy. It hardly sounds like a siren. It sounds demonic.
If only sirens were used for music like this unlike back then and even now for war, bomb threats, and natural disasters
The sirens back then were startling and spread a message of disaster. These sirens are designed to of course sound musical, and music and war are two thing that don't mix.

I always assumed that in the event of an actual emergency, the music sirens would be used with the ports on all the stators open, which would sound pretty startling. Also possible that they would just have 1 or 2 of the stators open for a more conventional siren sound.
