Beaumont CA Sirens

Wed Mar 10, 2021 7:14 pm

Hello,
I thought I would start a topic discussing about Beaumont Californias siren system.

Information about the system
The Beaumont CD/VFD calling System consisted of 2 sirens, one at the current E 9th St and Orange Ave and the other at the Old City hall off of Grace and California Avenue (Cant find it).
Both sirens were tied into a system, and they did nooners every day.

The city hall siren is a mystery, and so is the Stewart Park one. The city hall siren was doing a test one day in 1970 and the siren literally exploded, which caused them to switch to pagers after.

The city also wants to preserve the Stewart Park siren, so it coming down or being sold is unlikely.

I will post some pictures and the two articles of the sirens below.

The legs look model 2, rest of it looks like Soundmaster/ACA.
Using the pole for scale it does seem to be the size of a model 2. The motor seems awfully small.

Never heard of a siren actually exploding. Burning Yes, the T135 that overran its duty cycle by nearly an hour, but never actually exploding. Perhaps it had a defect in the Rotor or whatever held it down ( lock nut/cotter pin?)

Bit of a bump, I do not keep track of my posts

Anyways, I took a trip back to it a few days ago as I always pass by the area, and I noticed the stator has a B&M design to it. Most, if not all B&M sirens have the screw/rod going through the middle of the port and this siren in fact has them. Not sure about the motor and legs, or the shrouds.
(Possibly) Another B&M found in the Southern California area!

It would have been quite the sight to see a siren exploding. Thankfully no one got hurt from that.

You can see the rod going through.

Another bump, sorry.
The siren at Stewart Park in Beaumont has been removed. It was eventually going to happen, and it has. Though, it will be preserved and put up in the museum in the area.

Direct quote: "The other air raid siren in Beaumont was recently removed from Ninth Street and Orange Avenue as the city prepares to renovate Stewart Park. The San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society took the siren off the pole and plans to add it to its museum in time."
