Favorite Train Horn? (If you like trains)

Thu Dec 30, 2021 12:35 am

Trains have some pretty loud warning devices. Today, American horns are manufactured by Nathan Airchime, although many other horn makers, such as WABCo and Leslie have dominated the market at times. However, what's YOUR favorite train horn if you like trains? My personal favorite is the 2014 Nathan K5HLB, an example of which is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnH9NhjgBAU&t=105s

I caught a K5HLB on a CSX GEVO once! I'll have to upload that...
My favorite has to be either the Nathan P01235, the 1st generation Nathan K5LA, or the Leslie RS5T-RRO.
Leslie still exists and sells horns, although they mainly sell industrial horns nowadays. Although, Hornblasters sells Leslie horns now.

I've never caught a K5HLB, but I have video'd two 3rd Gen K5HLA horns on UP 7929 and 2590, as well as one on what I think was UP 2752 that sounds like a K5LLA.

My favorite horn has got to be the old cast Nathan P3. It's most likely because I grew up listening to it but either way its a beaut.

Proud owner of a Lion King LK-100 hand crank siren. I also can also brag about riding behind a "Climax" locomotive...almost 10 years later.
