The weirdest sirens ever seen.

Thu Apr 28, 2022 12:09 pm

Send pictures of weird sirens you've seen here. I am kinda interested in seeing some that are cursed.

There are a couple of interesting things over here on the central East Coast. We've got a couple of fairly cursed setups.

This Model 5 is on a drawbridge, and it doesn't have a shroud... https://www.google.com/maps/@39.2582988 ... 384!8i8192

I don't know what they were thinking. This thing's gonna fall right into the water one day. I've heard it, it's absolutely pitiful. Almost all the drivers must be broken. It's single tone and runs wail for when they open the gates. There are two others mounted like this on the red sign by the train tracks and one near an water inlet.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.6616734 ... 384!8i8192

This has a cap on it to protect it from Osprey nests. It's inactive now. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5487658 ... 312!8i6656

The sirens aren't weird, but they're about 800 feet away from each other. There's a 2 behind the 7, you can just barely see it in the distance.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.2404246 ... 384!8i8192

Whoever mounted this is an idiot. The wood is covering the intake. https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1821287 ... 312!8i6656

The insane triple setup in Newark. All three are inactive (and I think there's a good chance that the Federal Electric is coded).
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.6823797 ... 312!8i6656

Low as hell. (Yeah, it's on a hill, but STILL!) https://www.google.com/maps/@39.7110898 ... 384!8i8192

The 7 has a very weird aftermarket steel shroud. You can't really tell from this distance, but once you get close, you can see all the oddities about it.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.7543408 ... 384!8i8192

It just gets worse the longer you look at it...

I agree with championsiren- the east coast has some pretty strange setups, for example this bidirectional ATI thing.

Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

lol what even....
does it rotate? I would think no.
EDIT after looking back at the picture there is no rotator. Disregard my previous question.

Haha, it would sure be funny if it did. I wouldn't be surprised if it tipped over. The epz of Indian Point has a few of these all pointing in different directions

I found a few more...

Why wouldn't you just make the pole thinner? Why do this?
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9735535 ... 384!8i8192

What the hell even is this???
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.7413108 ... 312!8i6656

Custom... 8/12 port... Sterling... stainless-steel... thing.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9396244 ... 384!8i8192

On the lower end of weird, but still weird. I'm wondering how they managed to get the top piece about a foot higher than it's supposed to be. (Yes, this is the same siren Dave Fritz recorded back in 2010.)

I've found too many weird things recently.

They use this as a FIRE SIREN...
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2656495 ... 384!8i8192

Yep, those are two Type As.
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.339093, ... 328!8i1664
(speaking of Type A, remember that Type A I had in my possession that wasn't mine? I restored it and got it running on full power and he gave it to me as a birthday present! :D Kudos to him for the awesome birthday present)

Thought this was normal and then I looked closer... there's a hole in the platform that was probably for the intake, but it's mounted on legs. And the legs are abnormally high. And... is that a telephone relay I see on the bottom?
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2731003 ... 312!8i6656

Is... is this a 2T22 with the top sawed off?! In that same town too...
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2725576 ... 328!8i1664

Stainless steel Fedelcode! Also, the poles that it's mounted on are two different colors. There's also an STH-10 in this town.
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3356216 ... 312!8i6656

3T22 mounted on a weight distribution pad.
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3159556 ... 384!8i8192

What is it with PA using small sirens as outdoor sirens?!
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.2757096 ... 384!8i8192

Why is the control box on the ground?!
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3544692 ... 312!8i6656

Really seems like people in the NY Fire Deps. love making their own custom housings and horns, especially for Sterlings lol! Those things get the weirdest "upgrades"
Federal Enterprises Model 5B (Sold), 3 Pianos, 86' Honda Spree, and just way too many Player Piano Rolls.

See all of those things here lol: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGOuOR ... VWYOVt6KOw
