I've been working on a map of every known Sterling Siren to have existed for the past 5 or so months, and I have come across many weird things during that time.

This, however, is the crown jewel of all oddities and atrocities...

Meet Biscoe, North Carolina's ROTATING Model M.

The thought of a rotating Sterling almost unsettles me. Zero idea what benefits come from this but... I appreciate the effort?
That really would be cool to see in action!
It has a slight advantage. The most focused beam of sound on this siren I believe comes out of the air intakes. Half the sound also comes out the ports though, so it doesn't NEED to rotate but it is technically good it does

Here's some weird Sterling stuff for you guys.

This M used to be mounted atop a water tank. I've only seen this done twice, to memory. This is the one I own

Model 2V8 on a gazebo
https://maps.app.goo.gl/j2nGWiE7TUePL76b8

Model M with the sounders mounted at a 90° angle. No clue why they thought this was a good idea.

This used to have just the ghetto horns, though the fire department thought it'd be nice to put the both sounders over one of their ghetto intake tubes.

This M was removed from display, then put back up about 12 years later, only without the motor and the rotors.....

Model 20 Sirenlite on a pole.

Little Giant with HUGE horns.

Have fun :)

I think that the ex-display Model M looks the most cursed, it reminds me of what I thought sirens looked like before properly getting into them…
A British siren enthusiast. Previously lived at the furthest point from any sirens before co-discovering one very close to where he is located. Also features a great discomfort referring to themselves in third-person.

I can very much relate. I wonder what happened to the motor and choppers.
Proud owner of nothing!
Hello, fellow siren enthusiasts. I am losing interest, but will be back on the board from time to time.

I remember looking at a picture of that on The Siren Archive a long time ago, and at the time I thought it was an H.O.R. Boy was I wrong...

Apparently, using Model Ls and other small sirens isn't that uncommon. Here's one from Tetonia, ID:

Even worse, using a SelecTone:

And in the vein of some of the other posts, I could never figure out why there was such a huge platform for this Model 5T/7T:
