For those unaware, Sedgwick County has ditched ATI and is going all-in with Federal Signal. As part of this project, the four remaining jailbar Thunderbolts were rebuilt and painted (well, powdercoated) in the Bumblebolt scheme; three were reinstalled at fire stations and one was mounted to a trailer. On March 4th, Sedgwick County Emergency Management will be having a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the oldest of the 4... see details below.

Jonathan Marr wrote:Join us on Saturday, March 4th at the Sedgwick County Fire District Headquarters for the Ribbon Cutting of, the fully restored, T-75. The oldest serving Thunderbolt in the world! We’ll have a few surprise guests, some speeches, a ceremonial activation and a good time!

Sunday, March 5th at 11am we’ll give a tour of Sedgwick County Emergency Management and our Emergency Operations Center. If you’re catching lunch afterwards, I’ll join. We can also stop in at the Wichita-Sedgwick County museum to check out the Civil Defense/Thunderbolt display.

Monday, March 6th at Noon, we’ll host a special test of the Thunderbolt at Wildwood Park with our last remaining 5M blower.

Tuesday, March 7th at 10am is our statewide tornado drill with a 5-min activation.
This is pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... there will never be another event like this.

Mods- if this is better suited to the Community Systems subforum, please move it there. Thanks!

I hope someone captures this event on camera, so those of us who live too far away (like me, down in Georgia) will have a chance to experience it.

Does anyone actually have photos of one of these Thunderbolts? I would really, and I mean really, like to see what they look like.

Ask and ye shall receive. That ridge in the horn is a crack that was welded up, it was left rough to give the appearance of a battle scar, which I think is actually pretty cool.
