My Federal Signal Modulator 6048B

Sat May 06, 2023 10:29 pm

I now own a fiberglass piece of junk!
Anyway, I got this thing off of MattDean1003 for free. Huge thanks to him for letting me have it, as it’s my first “big” siren acquisition.
For those who want an activation, there are no speaker drivers inside it.
Ex-Hall County, GA Siren #03. Manufactured in late 1999. Installed on 11/10/99, last time it was maintained was on 10/13/2003.

We had a small issue unloading it from the trailer and we accidentally dropped it. We were using a tractor with a boom attached to it and the boom for whatever reason got stuck. When it freed itself, it dropped the siren. Somehow the siren didn’t receive any damage.
I’ll post more about this when the restoration begins.
EDIT: That’s the last time the siren was maintained, my bad. Thought that was when it was installed.

Congrats on the acquisition! those 6 cell modulators are freaking massive. Hope you'll be able to get a few drivers & do a sound off!

There might be one in the top cell because the team (my dad, his friend, my uncle, and myself) were rolling it to get it under the shed at my barn and we heard something rattling around in there. I might ask Jeb if he has any or just buy some online.

How did it end up in this condition in the first place. I understand that it hasn't been maintained in years but Allertors can hold up for that long and they're made of the same stuff. I also want to know if it was sitting on its side judging by the dirt concentrated in a line down the side in the first image.
Congratulations on the acquisition!

It’s been sitting on the ground for several years, that’s why there is so much dirt built up on it. I’m sure the fiberglass was damaged during removal. Funnily enough, I found the piece laying inside of the cell. Still need to patch it up though as the crack was still there when I temporarily placed it inside the hole.
Edit: I may be the one you are asking for in your signature, yes I still do indeed use that link!

Hey, love to see it! Very cool catch and definitely more dedicated than I am. I have no desire to own one of those things heh. Shoot me a message if you need some help with that controller, I'd be more than happy to give a hand!
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wow, free? That's amazing! That modulator looks really nice. Are you planning to mount it?

First day of the teardown begins!
Well, after getting the cover off of the top cell, it turns out that there were 2 speaker drivers still in there! No expert on this but they appear to be aftermarket with no FS branding on them whatsoever.

It also turns out that there is another driver in the cell below it, so we have 3 of them in total.

Nice find with the drivers! Hopefully they're in working order. Sucks that plastic piece in the upper cell is cracked though.
