Hi all
I have come across this GENT siren in my grandads shed. All I know is it’s from WW2. Anyone have any knowledge on this or an idea of what it might be worth
Alex
Thanks, the motor is not seized but I have never powered it upEclipse DDS wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:58 amOh wow! That's a really cool find! As with Snowpix, I had no idea that there were any of these left! Nice find!
You should research the siren on Snowpix's Civil Defence Sirens Wiki, there is a link to it in his signature
Honestly, not sure what it might be worth though. Does the motor still run?
Ah, well if you ever do power it up be sure to share it on hereAlexhoney0212 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 6:47 amThanks, the motor is not seized but I have never powered it upEclipse DDS wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:58 amOh wow! Appears to be another Type 1469! Not sure why it's marked as "Type IND" but I guess that's another designation for it. They theoretically can be ran off of a mains plug (if you have access to 220V), just be careful with the starting amps as it may blow a breaker.al66class59 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 3:01 pmThis is a similar siren I believe, but I am not clued up on the specific model names for the older Gents sirens so can't be exactly sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S6PXvWq73I
These things are single-phase 220v, so could theoretically be run off a UK mains plug!
The plates usually show voltage allowances of between 200-250V, so anything in that general range would run it; after all, mains voltage is rarely completely consistent.Snowpix wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 9:08 pmAppears to be another Type 1469!
