My Model A and Model B-9 - Specs

Wed Jan 10, 2024 9:05 pm

Note that I’m just using my experience with them as my info in this, and that the two of them are about 50 or 60 years old.

I’m writing this as a guide to anyone looking to buy one of these two types. Overall just saying that you should not make the investment to get a new one, you can find some pretty cheap ones (200-500 dollars or so) that are like 20 years old, but know they do get more expensive the older or newer they are and if it’s really cheap that it might need work on it

Federal Signal Model A “Kareninator 6000” specs:
(CURRENTLY TAKEN APART WITH WIRING REMOVED)
Wind up: very quick
Wind down: also quick (due to lubricant issues)
Tone: Very low for its size
Date produced: 1960 (small 60 marked on tag)
Weight: about 15 pounds
Paint: Red on body. Black on stand
Paint condition: Chipped in some areas and paint fading slightly. Due for cleaning
Tag type: Classic Federal Sign & Signal tag in perfect condition
Overall condition: Great
Projects due: Cleaning the inside out and reassembly. Redoing wiring

Federal Signal Model B-9 specs:
Wind up: Also very quick
Wind down: pretty slow
Tone: Very similar to the Model Q
Date produced: 1971
Weight: about 10 pounds (it’s jarring since you don’t expect it to be so heavy when picking it up)
Paint: bright red
Paint condition: besides some chipping around the bolt holes on the stand, perfect
Tag type: Classic Federal Sign & Signal
Overall condition: perfect condition
Projects due: 1 minute test

Note: I got these two sirens from Billy Goldfeder as a gift. He is an absolute legend of firefighting and a great friend. And I’ll be following up soon about the origins of both of them and I’ll update it when I learn about them

Edit:
Why did this get so many views??????
