Doss Highschool TBolt 1000T in Alert

Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:37 am

This is my first post containing one of my own siren recordings. This is the Thunderbolt 1000T located near the football field at Doss Highschool, in Louisville, Kentucky. This siren test was recorded on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 12:00 P.M. We were sitting right next to the siren pole, so you won't be able to hear the siren rotating that well, but you can if you listen close. Notice that the blower cuts off almost immediately after the winddown begins. All of our TBolts do that now, but the blowers used to wait 8 to 10 seconds before they shut off. This is the closest I've ever been to a TBolt. If anyone has any problems with the link, please let me know.

Is that one of those 4/5 T-bolts, it sounds like a hyped up Model 2T

Oh and your first link is a direct link to the file. That is as direct as you are going to get with Putfile.

That's actually a 5/6 port TBolt, but it's recorded so close to the siren, that it sort of reminds me of a 2T22, but not quite. I've got another recording of that same siren from about a quarter of a mile away, during a tornado warning. I'll be posting that soon.

Here's the link to the other recording of that siren.

http://media.putfile.com/Doss-Tornado-Warning

This was recorded on Friday, May 7, 2006, during a tornado warning. The storm had already passed my mom and dad's house, which is where I was, and it was about 6 o'clock in the afternoon. That siren is still very loud when it points at the house, even from a quarter of a mile away. You can hear several other sirens in the bacground, including some 2001's, an ASC Alertronic that sounds like a very high pitched Hurricane, and several other TBolts. One of the other TBolts had a broken rotator when this was recorded.

Maybe a little bit spooky, but not as spooky as this.

That same siren is included, but this was recorded four days later during a siren test, about a mile away from the siren. You can hear several other TBolts, including the one with the broken rotator. Three of these sirens together make a musical chord.

Indeed it is, nice to hear different tones come from all of those Thunderbolts rather than the near same tone on all. :)
