The Siren Board

This short clip from Arnold, PA (about a minute long) was recorded about 2-3 years ago during a fire call.

Since the recording, the fog horn and 2T's either broke or have been shut off (don't know which), and the 5T is now an STH-10.....

Now even I would be "motivated" to respond for an alarm in Arnold, PA with that set-up. Nice clip. How long ago was it recorded?

Agreed wholeheartedly. The 2T/5T harmonics are somewhat ominous. It's not at all common to hear a 2T in the wild nowadays anyhow, being that it's a gem to come across.

Nice recording, i wish they used Fog Horn/Fire Horns around here for Tornadoes...that would be spooky.

Upon much more careful listening to the clip, I (not so easily) determined that the sirens with the deepest register in the mix are the 2T's aforementioned.


These sound different to me, like a minor-third harmonic of an xt22, but more Carter's like. I say this because an old 2T soundclip I have demonstrates the attack cycle sounding in a *major* third interval.

Was the 2T manufactured with two bi-level rotor/stator configurations, thus two possible dual-tone combinations?

Since the 2T is so rare, approximately how long was it manufactured?

It must've been introduced in the early '60's, as I don't think I've heard of Model 2 types being produced any earlier than that.

BTW, can anyone help me with ID'ing the model in the fourth picture?
I assume the following based on FFEMT134's description of what we hear in the clip:
Pic 1. Federal 2T
Pic 2. Duh...LOL
Pic 3. Federal 5T (most prominent in the recording)
Pic 4. Red siren = ???. I also see what looks to be the top half of another siren at the right of the pic. 2T?

That was a great sound awesome to be heard when they had all 3 of the 2's up with the Fedel code and 5T and Horns.




The 5T did come down and was replaced by a STH 10
The 5T will be going up to Arnold 2 to replace the Fedelcode 5(not sure what happened but i was told by a ff from arnold that it did die)


Arnold did also set a Curfew i believe and the sirens do go off for that too.

The siren in the fourth picture is the FEDELCODE and it look's like the top of a Model 5 or 7 near by.
