A lot of cities with Whelens seem to be using this signal now. As some of you know, I'm visually impaired, so I can't see the siren in the video. Is it a Vortex?

It's either a Vortex or 4004. Must be one of the newer ones since it is higher pitched than the older whelens.

Actually older Whelens were slightly higher pitched. Around 2001 or 2002 Whelen lowered the pitch on their sirens again.

Didn't Whelen have a problem with some of their sirens when they tried to lower the pitch of the alert tone on some of their sirens to around 440 HZ? Didn't they have to raze the frequency again? There was a topic on this forum about that a while back.

I am really not sure. The WPS series could not handel it and both the WPS 4000 and 2900 series are now at 550hz. The Vortex and the other tone only sirens are still at 450hz. The older model Whelen Vortex sirens we have in Tullahoma sound the same as in this video. The older models sounded at 465Hz steady.
