Well I finally got the video version's up YAY!, Here they are and enjoy. The first one is the part where the Hi-lo function is tested on the 4004, and the second part is for the short alert blasts of the whelen then the city's sirens start up and so does the 1003, But durring the citywide alert watch as the whelen blends in with the 1003. It's Awesome! :P

The FileDen links take a long time to load, but it's worth the wait! Good videos! I hope YouTube is back up soon, so you can get the other video on there.

The countdown timer on that 1003's blower is actually set to 0 seconds, the shortest I've ever heard, so what you were hearing at the end was the chopper only.

I have Cable Hi-Speed Internet and those videos took 10mins so dial-up users beware.
The whelen didn't even get to rotate full around.

YouTube was down most of the night, but the second video should be posted there some time today. The YouTube version of the first video downloaded immediately for me, so once the other one is posted there, it should do the same.

From what I was told, the Water Company was having problems with the Whelen DTMF controler, so that's probably why it was only sounding in short blasts. I wish it would have sounded in full Alert, or even in all six signals.

I've edited the 2T22 recording so that the portion with the Whelen is much louder than it was before. The original link is still in my first post. The new file is in WMA format, so please let me know if anyone has any problems playing it. Here's the new link.

As I said in another thread, I found outYesterday that the Whelen that can be heard is an incredible 9 miles away from where the recorder was, and it is located on the roof of the lab at Rohm and Haas, a chemical plant in Rubbertown. The Whoop signal that can be heard in this recording is the evacuation signal, and the Alert signal is the All Clear. The Whelen has voice capability, and it was apparently installed around the year 2000.

Whelen Rules, if you're reading this post, please help me to identify the Whelen. I'm thinking that it may be a 2910, but I'm not sure, because some of the older 2910's were lower pitched than this Whelen.

It actually sounds like a 2800, not a 2900. Up until near the end of their production, the 2800 series produced slightly higher pitched 465hz alert tone. Some of the later 2800s and the earlier 2900s produced a lower 440hz alert tone. The 2900s produced today (as well as the 4000s which I learned during today's test) give a 560hz alert tone.

Thanks Jkvernon. Do you know which 2800 series Whelen was the loudest, and how loud it was, because that's probably the one that can be heard in that recording.

The loudest of the 2800 series was the 2810 at 126dB at 100 ft.

Thanks again, Jkvernon. It's amazing that I could hear that thing from nine miles away, and that's nine miles as the crow flies! This just proves that Whelens are no joke! It seems that most of their energy is used for the lower part of the tone, and not on higher harmonics like some other sirens.

If Lea Ann sends me a picture of the siren, please take a look at it, and tell me whether it's a 2810 or not. I'm thinking that's probably what it is. If it turns out to be something like a 2807 or a 2805, it will really surprise me.
