So it goes I had some stuff to do out in Olney, TX today, so I decided to go really far out of my way and make a siren hunt out of it.

Bellevue TX:

Some kind of little model 2 or 3. This town is extremely small and almost abandoned. I think the population is maybe 60 people.

Image

Next we have a couple sirens from lovely Holliday, TX. I don't think it ever occurred to them that they should mound the sirens off the ground.

Image

Notice its an off-center style siren with the horn lift point.

Image

Another wonderful thing about the Holliday sirens are that the 2T22s...probably are more single toned than dual. (The pole is kind of up the siren's lower intake.)

Image

I've counted about 6 sirens in Holliday. The 2T22 pictured is the only one that is mounted higher than about 12 feet.

Moving on.

Further South we have Archer City, which has a 1003 that covers nicely. It's blower looks more like an air compressor for an A/C than a blower..

I'm going to be making another trip out there soon, I will try to get some other towns. The nice thing about Texas is you get a decent variety of sirens.

Image

Next up is the microscopic establishment of Megargel. I have no idea how you say it, but they have this STL-10.

Image

and this whatever not too far from the other siren...

Image

I'm sure both sirens are still in use, seeing as God seems to hate this part of Texas most, and sends most of the tornadoes through this swath.

And finally after a few more miles, I end up in Olney. Home of not really anything. They are a decent sized town though, with about 5000 people. I'm sure they have a couple more sirens than what I have found, 1003's and 3T22's. All of their sirens, excluding the Lion, are 3 signal ready.

Federal Lion atop city hall.

Image

1003 by Dollar General on 114. (This was the first -1003 that ever I remember seeing. I was 4 or 5 and we made the mistake of driving to Lubbock instead of Southwesting it.)

Image

It too has the alternate lift point on the horn.

Image

3T22 in NW Olney.

Image

and another just like it in S Olney

Image

There were plenty more sirens for me to get pictures of but it was late and most of them are on UVFR. I did, however, find this little thing at a volunteer FD in Jermyn. It looks like a Model 2. Thats about all I know.

Oh and here is a RM-127. I saw it and figured I'd take a picture of it.

Nice pictures! Man that Thunderbolt in Holliday is way low! I wonder how come those thunderbolts are off to the side.
Does Olney use the Hi-Low for anything?

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. Why exactly was the off-centered Thunderbolt introduced?

Off the main topic a bit... I nominate that ThunderBolt as one of the lower mounted sirens! :)

That Federal Lion doens't seem to be in too good of shape / condition if you ask me. Needs a little TLC. :)

Damn I've never seen any of those sirens in the area before! Oh well, beat me to it!

Where about in Jermyn is that siren? I've been through there but never knew they had a siren or a FD for that matter.

Nice pictures man!

LOL well if you blinked, then you probably missed Jermyn all together. Its on the SW side of 114. maybe 50 yards off the highway.

I was actually making a joke, but it seems the box might be inside?

I know. I just thought it would have been kinda funny if it was. I have seen those small town folks do some odd things

Is that a T-bolt 7000 (gas) ??????????? Those are all great pictures, and I have to hand it to you; I've driven ALL OVER Texas, and only ever found a couple of sirens. You have the magic eye to find those!
