Does anyone know when the first voice capable sirens came out?,and what make they were?

I believe a company called Fi-R-Fighter (I think that's how it was spelled) made some of the first voice capable sirens. If I remember right they were really low in decibels and weren't very popular. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong. They were around mid 60's to mid- 70's

The name is actually "Fyr-Fytr". It looked like an early Whelen WS-1000 siren. The controls to this thing were huge and required someone to operate the siren throughout the duration of the signal (as the controls used toggle switches, the siren was not automatic).

Im curious is there any pics to the Fyr-Fytr electronic siren?

Since you mentioned it, what does a WS-1000 look like?
Also, interesting name for a company. Are they still around?

Fyr-Fyter also known as G&S fire extinguishing chemicals, and later Crouch Fire & safety products. Was established in 1916 by John T. Crouch, and was one of the first manufacturers of fire extinguishers and chemicals. There plant was shared with another company, the quarters were to crowded at there original plant. So in 1952 they moved to 221 crane street Dayton Ohio. That same year they also changed the name to Crouch Fire & Safety Products but continued using the Fyr-Fyter name.

Around 1957 they started making sirens and controllers for those sirens, they were all electronic and fyr-fyter never made mechanical sirens. As well as out door warning devices, Fyr-Fyter also made sirens for fire trucks, pull boxes, hoses, nozzles, sprinkler system parts and gear. Around 1985 they stopped production of out door warning sirens and fire truck sirens.

In 1977, Rich and Joy Oxley purchased Crouch Fire & Safety Products. In the 1990s Crouch Fire & Safety started repairing of lights and sirens again as well as other emergency vehicle equipment. But they no longer produce any thing.

Then finally in 2005, Megacity Fire Protection purchased Crouch Fire & Safety Products.
