Old Wichita Tornado News Video

Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:53 pm

Here's a video I found on YouTube of a tornado that hit the west side of Wichita on September 5th of 1992. At 21 seconds in you can hear a Model 5 along with some Thunderbolts and some loud high pitched single tone siren (not a 2001). At 2:28 you can also hear some loud single toned siren and a very spooky sounding TBolt.

That single tone siren with the thunderbolt almost sounded like a Hurricane.
Greater Vancouver, 0 active sirens...

Nice mix of siren, he stated "Near Central & Rock", in that area they have a 2001 and a few thunderbolts, but the intercestion of Central & Rock is a mile from any sirens. No Model 5s near.
Nice find!

Yeah, looking at the map I can see that there aren't any Models 5s. I'd really like to know what that high pitched siren is. It couldn't be a 2001 seeing as how it's from 1992 and the 2001s made then weren't nearly that high pitched.

That high pitched single tone siren could be a Thunderbolt 1000, but I didn't think that there were many 1000's in Wichita. I thought that most of the Thunderbolts there were 1000T's. I also hear a lower pitched single tone siren, which could either be another 1000, a single tone Penetrater, or even an older T-128, though I don't know when ASC began making those. I also heard two 1000T's. Great video!

Edit: That high pitched single tone siren couldn't be a Thunderbeam, could it? But then again, I've never heard a Thunderbeam get any higher pitched than an STH-10.

Sedgwick County/Wichita does not have any ACA/ASC Products nor do they have Thunderbeams.

Thanks for clearing that up. How many Thunderbolt 1000's does Sedgwick county have?
