The Siren Board

So today we went to visit family outside Foyil, Oklahoma. We decided to take a trip down to Tulsa, Oklahoma to get some garden planter for our landlord since she liked ours and it turns out the only Lowe's that has the damned thing was the one in Tulsa.

So we go there, but while driving down the highway I notice something that looked like their standard Whelen WS 3016, but the back-end was radically different.

At this point I wanted to FIND it and PHOTOGRAPH it. I was impatient at Lowe's, and daylight was fading a tad. So, without my navigational software, I carefully navigate down the streets looking for this siren. Hoping it's what I'm thinking it is.

As it turns out, I was right. It's the rare Whelen WPS 4008 and I'm a very happy puppy.

So if you're going through Tulsa, Oklahoma and are as big a fan of Whelen as I am, be sure to stop by this siren to get some photos of it, and hopefully even recording it during testing day.

Does anyone have the operations manual for the WPS 4008? I'd love to read up on it more.

I know the 3016 has been discontinued, but I read that they had a similar model being made, just a different model number. I guess this must be it.

I like the hulking size of the thing.

Not exactly sure as my knowledge is rather weak with this siren. So, anyone, please share the WPS 4008 manual if you have it.

From my understanding, the WPS 4008 was a short-lived variation that offered 8 speaker drivers with 132dB of volume at 100'. Which means this siren should have an effective range of close to 4 miles, compared to the WPS 4004's 2 miles. I'm not sure what the WS 3016's dB rating was.

Wow, though. I can't believe I came across this. I thought all Tulsa, Oklahoma had was WS 3016's. It was really a surprise to see this siren, and to see that it's almost white. It has a much lighter shade of grey compared to the WS 3016's and WPS 4004's.

I just love how this siren is at the end of a dead-end road. The road literally leads to nowhere except to this siren.

It was actually discontinued probably like 5 years ago. It had an effective range of 6,400ft. compared to the 4004's 5,200ft.

Ahh man, double the speakers and yet it's only 1dB louder than a WPS 4004? No wonder it was discontinued. Thanks for the spec sheet.

Regardless, it's at least still a menacing looking siren.

It has the lower tone of some of the older 4004's, and the older 2910's. I thought that this siren was 3 DB louder than a 4004, and not 1 DB louder. It seems to have a deeper sound than a 4004.

Thanks for the manuals, Derek. I've had for for a few months now, it's interesting that they refer to the "4000 Series" as simply the 4003/4004 model variations. I guess the 4008 didn't have it's own special manual.

Thanks for the video vertum, it's amazing to hear it. Given it's pretty identical to the Vortex/WPS 4004. It does sound a bit lower toned, though.

Essentially it's right beside Highway 169 behind a school. You can see it from the highway.

Simply take the 61st Street Exit. Go west on West Albany Street/61st street, than turn south onto South 99th East Avenue. Turn east onto East 62nd Street. Turn south onto South 101st East Avenue. There's a small single-laned road that heads East. The map says it's 62nd Place.
