The end of a beautiful era in Rosemount, MN.

Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:44 pm

On july 8th the city, or contractor hired by the city removed a 1000T and a 2T22, and replaced both of them with a FS2001 at the location where the 1000T once stood. Two other 1000Ts are scheduled to be removed on the east side of town. Likely they will get all of them. Honestly I could give a rip about the benefits like less money spent on maintenance and battery back-up, and solar power. I want to hear Thunderbolts Damn it! The city claims the coverage is better with the 2001, but the sirens have sounded twice since its installation, and I have yet to hear it from my house. You used to be able to hear the 1000T clearly, even in rain and wind, at almost 2 miles. Anyway, the good times are over for us here, and that beautiful song will never be heard again.

2001s spell the end of Thunderbolts most of the time :( . You should see if you can purchase the Thunderbolt or the 2T22.

:( I hate to hear that! Minnesota is being taken over by 2001's. Most of the videos with sirens I've seen on YouTube from Minnesota have nothing but 2001's in them. I think White Bear Lake and St. Paul still have some Bolts left.

Is there any way you could acquire one of your city's Thunderbolts?

Seems as if these days, its popular to replace sirens. Jackson County, Kansas has stayed strong! There have all 2t22s, Model 5s, STH-10s and a SD-10 and Model 2. Jefferson County has Banshees and Model 5s, but 2001 have been poping up in a few cities...Leavenworth still has its system of Thunderbolts.

Another fallen Rosemount Thunderbolt

Mon Jul 14, 2008 10:40 pm

On July first, they removed the thunderbolt that sat at the junction of HWY 52 and HWY 55. The siren was there when I drove by that morning, but
by that evening, the siren was gone. The pole is still there, but so far no new siren has been installed there. I had to take a side trip to make sure the thunderbolt at 142nd St. & Emery Ave. was still standing. (it was as of 7-1) I'll have to see if that one is gone now too.

As the Thunderbolt ages, these things happen.

thats how it is in indy....all of the old ones are gone...

but would it be wiser to use the Eclipse 8 sirens vs. the 2001s?

I drove by the Highway 52 Thunderbolt EVERY week, and I thought I was seeing things when I saw it disappeared :( A sad day indeed, as Rosemount was one of the only places I know of that still have Thunderbolts, and that were on my weekly commute. Rochester, MN was overtaken by the 2001 plague way back in 1993, when the current (at the time) system of Thunderbolts, 2T22s, SD-10s and STH-10s was only 9 YEARS OLD (that system had been installed in 1984). I love the 2001s because they do grab your attention, but the old system did it better, and was more aesthetically pleasing.

If you are looking for any Thunderbolts in out-state Minnesota, Alexandria has two ( I think they are tenitivly looking to replace them by '09). There is a Thunderbolt a little ways away from Voyager Elementary School on Co. Rd. 44, and one across the street from Henry's Food Co. on McKay Ave in Alex.
Bring back the thunderbolt, NOW.

Rosemount T-bolt update

Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:59 am

The 1000T that is at 142nd St. and Emery Ave. (about 1 mile SE of where the T-bolt at Hwy 52 & 55 was) is still there as of 7-16. Technically, this siren is at a Rosemount address, no doubt the furthest-east siren in the city limits. Logically, this will be the next to go. Two short years ago, there were three T-bolts within roughly a two-mile area..one was just west of HWY 52 on County 42 (replaced by a 2001), the one at HWY 52 & 55, and the one at 142nd and Emery. Thunderbolts all over Dakota County are disappearing. The most frustrating part to me is that there is a thunderbolt within easy earshot of where I live, but I have yet to nail down its location. Otherwise, we are awash in a sea of 2001's (which all replaced thunderbolts in the last ten years)
