They were probably low on their budget. But I still wish that they would have put a couple more bucks into it. Also, because the siren is on a fire-response house, I think that they don't want the sound to go throughout residential areas, so they mounted it in a low setup.
Thanks for sharing that one, Joe!

On my Chino Prison siren hunt today, I found a 2001 that seems to be mounted very low in my opinion. It's probably around 14 or 16 feet off the ground. From where I snapped a picture of it, it would probably hurt if the siren activated.

I have a pic somewhere from Bridgeman, MI that has a Model 5 mounted
on a fire station, which is only like 10 feet off the ground.
I'll look for the pic.

I present for your approval, a 12 Port Model 5 at the Middle Road Fire Department in Indiana Twp, Pa. It was about 7 feet off the ground and was quite scary to look at knowing that it was still hooked up.

An Allertor mounted on the side of a shingle roof? I would imagine the blast would eventually cause roof damage.

This is a dangerously low siren. It's only 15' off the ground. And yes it's very painful when it goes off. Back when the town tested it (it's no longer used for any purpose and the FD wants to keep it "just in case") I decided to record it up close (I'll have to dig around for the recording). I made the mistake of walking to where I was directly across from it. That was bar none the most painful siren experience I've ever had and that counts pinching my finger in the 2T's stator (that just stung like hell and my right middle fingernail turned black and blue). When it wound down after a 5 minute slow attack cycle (15 seconds on 10 off without the dampers engaged) it shook me as the rotors slowed. After walking away my ears felt cold and I had the worse headache of my life which lasted for 2 hours. Worse yet was I had to work right after this (and oh did my old boss just
love me that day

) . Anyway this is the lowest I think I've ever seen
