A while ago I got my first siren. It was used on a boat for the Coast Guard Aux. It is old, and looks to be in good conditon. The motor is made by the Leece-Neville Company, but it is not working which of course means the siren is not operating. It runs on 12 VDC and perhaps there is the model number on the plate which is 2L10E5, but I have no idea what company made this siren and I would like to find out more about the siren. I have some pictures that I took of it. I would appreciate any input that you may have.

This is a Federal Signal vehicle siren, I believe a model E or EG. 2L10E5 is the serial number. I wonder why they used it on a boat because it's not made for marine use.

I got my money on it being a Police Siren from say like the 50's to the 60's (back when they had the huge "Gumballs" on top of Mercurys, etc)

It's a Federal model VG. It was marketed primarily to volunteer firemen, for their personal vehicles.

Here is a video I made of the VG. The motor wasnt blown after all but it needed to be wired differently than I had it wired. So anyway heres the link.

Nice to see you got it working. It sounds like the small siren I have which has a plastic rotor. Speaking of vehicle sirens, what Federal vehicle siren has a long coastdown? We have one of these on our firetrucks and I can't figure it out. It's no Q.

The only other one I can think of is the Model-77/78, and I'm pretty sure both of those are dual tone.

Another "coaster" siren in the Federal line was the model C. I believe it was the top of the line before the Q appeared.

This is from John Dorgan's "Sirenman" website, which is well worth visiting at
