*Sigh* You are misinformed.... Federal never sued anyone for anything....the Hurricane came out first.... square as a matter of fact.
Federal copied that from ACA, ACA decided that the round horn design would be more efficient and easier/cheaper to produce. So, I once again set that record straight.

What is your source for the above information? A statement is more
believable when a source of the info is given.

Is it really easier/cheaper to produce a fiberglass shape like that?
Seems to me that cutting out 4 sides of cheap steel, putting
the bends in them and then welding them together would be
easier/cheaper than making that complicated Hurricane horn.
We have brake operators where I work that could put all the bends
in a T-bolt horn side in under 2 minutes. The steel sheet that T-bolt
horns were made out of was cheap stuff and welding it wouldn't
take hardly any time at all. I would bet the entire process for
the Thunderbolt horn was less than an hour total time. Maybe an
hour at the longest. I guess you would have to figure in the
horn support time too so I would bet the total time for manufacturing
a Thunderbolt horn and support wasn't over an hour and a half.
I would bet there's not much difference in horn cost between the
2 sirens.
Dad, what does that CD mean on that big yellow horn? Well son, I believe it stands for Cyclone Device......

Eric,

Information comes from Barbara Emrich of ASC, for reference I don't think it would be cheaper and easier to produce the ACA fiberglass horn. The thinking at the time was on thier end, I don't know anything about making fiberglass or forming molds or anything else. It was also thought that the round design would be better at pushing sound, not sure if that was true or not. She said she got that from some of the older employees after asking around. So, that is where I have gotten my facts from...unlike the kiddies on this board I get my ducks lined up a bit before I post.

No need to yell.

I am a chimney sweep.
I also work for a tree company.
I also work on tower clocks and tower bells.

That tower certainly wouldn't be difficult.
There is more stuff; struts, crossbeams and tower elements to tie onto
than most places I work.

Someday, that Hurricane will be removed.
It will be in the way of something, or justaken out before it poses a hazard.

They might as well have me do it NOW!
Then no future need/problem.

But, how long would it take me to drive there, do the disassembly and get back? Would the Ford Expedition be enough, or must I rent a trailer? (Must reinstall the trailer hitch I removed to save weight.)

This all may be too costly for me to afford.

I don't knowhat a Hurricane weighs or how bulky.
Would I need a helper? (I did move a grand piano by myself!)

But those poor trailer park people need a siren.

What's a boy to do?

First, write letters.

That's probably how much the trip and everything would cost!

After making all arrangements and securing all permissions, I'd get there
and there would be another stumbling block.

That's my concern.

When I am not sweeping chimneys or working for the tree company, I am not earning money - not neutral, I am losing money.

RE: Hurricane horn:

Totally round exponential is better than any other shape.

I would think it easy to make by wrapping fiberglass around an exponential cone. The cone could pull out easily because of it's curve.

Now you all are inspiring me to go get it!

Would anyone mind if it were to be rescued, broughto Denver, treated
with TLC and tested once a month?

I'd rather see thathan it be left to slowly deteriorate or be scrapped.
Some day it's liable to be gone and no one will know when it was
removed and scrapped.

I think he's right maybe you should look towards another city with a mark I hurricane. I'd try googling "city warning siren" or something like that and then going to that town and seeing if it's possible to get a hold of it. But I think getting the hurricane down from the tower isn't gonna happen.
Goodbye everybody I will miss this board.
