Anyone notice this siren [>=<]in the background of a car commercial filmed in downtown L.A.?
It was painted black.

Thank you,

I am assuming you mean the Federal Signal SD-10, as LA had both this and the 500T's.

Wish I knew, Kid.
Don't know enough about enough sirens.
It resembles the image I typed.

Thanks,

YES!
Nice ad.
So sad that they were sold as airaid sirens.

The ones I have seen are different probably because newer.
I guess the "D" means dual-toned.

Looks like a lot of sound loss due to those grills and being so close to the stator ports may disrupt soundwave formation.

Thank you,

Actually. I don't know if SD10s were ever made like that (although I thought I saw a pic somewhere).
But a common SD10 looks like this one with a small metal sheet:

There were in fact some SD-10s made with the metal screen type housing, as I have seen several in Texas, and at least 2 in the D/FW Metro.

Which commercial was it?

There are a ton of those SD-10s in the older parts of Los Angeles (the 500T shows up in neighborhoods that were built up in the 50s & 60s).

I've never seen a black-painted one, but they ALL need paint :( ... If I see the commercial, I might figure out which location it was, and I'll try to get a new photo.

Ok, Here is a couple of pic's of a sd10 with the screen I picked up about a month ago from a demolition contractor in Fontana Calif. It was part of the L.A. CD system.I was told it came from the corner of 3rd and bixel. maybe some of you from the southland know where that is.I would think it is a earlier model before the steemetal was incorporated around the stator. I don't Know. It's too bad Federal does'nt have a classics section on their website depicting each past siren, and noting design changes for reference..........
