Unknown Slaton, TX, Siren Clip

Tue Jun 23, 2009 2:05 am

Hi all,

I travelled to Slaton, TX, tonight to record the mystery siren there. It turns out that they activate the sirens for a short "blast" twice to call in the firefighters for fire practice. They do this every week on Monday evenings at 6:30.

This siren was discussed some in this topic: http://www.airraidsirens.com/forums/vie ... php?t=6544

Here is a good and close-up picture of the siren:

Anyways, I cannot tell what the thing is from the sound of it. It sounds single tone to me. What do you guys think?

*NOTE: The video sucks! The only thing I was interested in was recording the sound since we have a picture of it.*

Sorry for the shaking and the seat and "leg" shots, but people around were starting to act a bit suspicious.

With that said, enjoy the audio!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6FF0ARVLI0

One karma point for a rare siren and good audio! That appears to be a single tone siren. It has the same number of ports above as below. They're staggered, but I'm guessing 11 ports by the pitch. Erick sirens were not made with dual rotors, but both Decot and Gamewell/Codewell sirens has constructions something like this. My guess is either a single-tone experimental Decot or some small-time manufacturer unfamiliar to us.

Could it be one of those HOR sirens with it's housing off? I've seen some before that look just like that, except with a housing on.

Thank you, Daniel! :)

Both of yall's guesses are as good as mine. I am absolutely stumped by this one.

Interesting and different; that's for sure.

I've never heard any siren sound quite like this one. It sounds like it has a 10 port chopper. It's interesting that it has a fast wind-up.

Yeah but it winds up like an ACA Screamer. They don't sound too dissimilar.

The wind-up reminded me of an ACA Screamer as well. But the chopper design (the whole design overall, actually) is different than that of an ACA siren, so I'm quite sure this isn't a Screamer.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a Decot, since the single tone Decot was a 15 port siren. Also that port design looks nothing like Decot's designs.
