Testing a three phase model 7 with my generator

Well, I finally had a chance to test out my surplus generator and what better way to test it than with a siren? The siren is a Model 7 with a cast iron rotor and 208-230 GE motor. This is the loudest siren I ever tested at my house, and would blow the 2t22 out of the water.

The generator is an Onan MEP-003A with a 30 horsepower air cooled diesel and a 15KW generator head. I finally got the fuel system cleaned out in it but I'm still having injector problems (notice only one set of cylinders is smoking) and the voltage regulator is a little screwy at times. I also think the hertz gauge isn't reading right since the generator is supposed to produce 60 HZ at 1800 RPM, but according the gauge it's making over 65 HZ at that RPM. So I still need to do some testing with that.

Here are the vids:

First run with the generator throttled down to what the gauge "says" is 60 HZ. As you can see it damn near stalled it.

Now for the second run. For this one the generator was running at wide open (1800 RPM) and did a lot better.

I originally had this Model 7. I got it from a Town in SE Iowa . Very small town Had this siren at a Meat locker. when they put a new Model 5 in town. they left this at the meat locker out of service. (It was at the meat locker because it was the only place that had 3 phase at that Time) Well the pole it was on Rotted away and the pole with the siren fell over All it did was smash the shroud not the siren it self. It was listed on EBay and I originally only wanted the controller for it but when a bidder never came and pick up the siren I got it too. when I went to pick up the other stuff.

Well Joe she runs great. All I've done to it is remove the grease cups and replace them with zerk fittings so the bearings would be easier to grease.

Nice!! That must be some BIG generator to put out 3 phase! do you use that for your house or just for sirens? By the way LOVE that model 7! (by the way this is my 200th post)

I bought it to test three phase motors with, and also power my house when utility goes down for weeks at a time during hurricane season.
