I remember seeing the siren in that picture!

"The Johnson?s live just over a hundred miles away from the tornado siren located at Rosebank Elementary School and feel they are even luckier being they can hear the siren inside their home."
Last time I checked, there is no siren in the world that can be heard 100 miles away...

Wow, those things sound horrible! Even watching the news clip it sounded more like a tone test of some kind other than a siren test. I think I appreciate the Whelen WPS-2806 down the street from my house a little bit more now! MUCH better tone than that Nashville loud speaker.

Yeah it seems really weak in the video.

They are extremely weak and most people can't hear them in Nashville even when they are outside. Here in T-town when our Whelen vortex sirens go off for tornado warnings there is not one place thoughout our city of 22,000 that they can not be heard outside of your home.

Sorry, but low bid doesn't always mean the BEST bid, or the best deal! ATI "sirens" are a prime example!

Years ago siren buffs on this board used to knock Whelen. Now ATI is taking the beating, and for good reason. If people can't hear them very well even outdoors, then there's something wrong somewhere in the system. But, the elderly couple in the news clip seem to be able to hear them well at 100 yards.

I heard the ATI at Crieve Hall School when the Nashville system was tested today.

Heard it clearly inside the house. However, if TV, etc. had been on I wouldn't have heard it.[

This siren is about 1/2 mile from my house. Last month I didn't hear it at all on 1st Saturday.

There was one test day last year when atmospheric conditions must've been really good; the ATI could be clearly heard..loud enough to catch my attention..inside the house.

I've only heard recordings of Whelen Vortex sirens on internet. However, they do have a more intense and a better sound than the ATI.
