CLM siren?

Sun Sep 13, 2009 10:45 pm

In this video you hear a siren wind-up that sounds like a model 5 and then a 10/12 siren. I do belive this to be a CLM. It gets louder faster than an Mobil Directo does, and is to raspy to be a Carter/Castle Castings siren.

?....

How do we know what a CLM sounds like? How does anyone here know that it sounds like a 10/12 port siren?

I really am curious. Surely one of us has heard one and can verify what it sounds like? Or...maybe not?...

Sorry, not tryin' to jump anyone's arse, but all I've ever seen is the assumption that it sounds like an XT22.

It gets louder than quieter then louder again. I don't think there were any XT22s in Canada.

Most municipalities in Canada rarely tested the sirens. In some cases the sirens were never tested from installation to removal. So, it's a rare chance that there are many people who have even heard them at least once in their lives. The best place to look for a working CLM siren would be in British Columbia as far as I can tell.

Another option is to start sending emails and making phone calls to several cities across Canada inquiring if they have any units in storage or still on poles that can be bought. That, though, would include personally paying to taking the siren down.

In 1985 many of the sirens in Ontario malfunctioned by someone at the controls at civil defense. If we have any siren junkies around here from Ontario and we're around at the time, they may be our only hope at identifying that sound. But, you'd think by now that someone would have come forward with that info.

Am I the only one to notice the high pitched tone gets slightly louder as the siren seems to spin? I'm sure it's a CLM siren.
