New siren installs coming up in Southeastern Michigan

Sat Nov 14, 2009 2:03 am

I got the word passed down from WSS that in the next few weeks the following sirens are on their way out and replacing with new.

Harper woods - 3 thunderbolts, Probably getting 2001's
Redford - 3 thunderbolts Getting 4 2001's
Northville adding 4 2001's (2 are already put in)and adding a new radio to their thunderbolt
Grosse Pointe area, adding 2001's Except for GP Shores, the other 4 haven't had sirens except back in the 1940's except GP woods's Thunderbolt, which may be going too :(

No new word on completing Dearborn, Canton, or Detroit at this time.

aw, the Harper Woods Tbolts are going? crap. Too bad I have no storage, or I'd be harassing people to get my hands on one.

I assume all of the removed Thunderbolts will go to WSS yard?

I was driving around in Canton Township the other day, and I saw two sirens from the distance, but did not have time to investigate. The first was an ASC Tempest, located west off Beck Road at Proctor. While the other one was on Barr Road, south of Geddes Road. However, I could not tell what manufacturer produced the second siren.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

Aaaannndd... they're gone. Drove home up I-94, and the Tbolt that was at Edsel Ford & Lochmoor is now a 2001-130.

You mean country club drive and Harper Ave.
That's been there for a few weeks now.
The real question is, are the other two still up or gone too?

Well, I guess we're going to see another cluster of 'bolts added to the Thunderbolt overload at WSS.
I love firefighting and sirens. Somehow they go together.
