Simplex fire alarm with projector horns (4050?)

I have been trying to find photos of these, but cant.

I can remember these from my school back around 1990. I believe the old system had rounded horns, but in the early 90's, these were replaced by a new alarm system with triangular shaped horns. These were installed in the hallways with the horns pointing down along the halls. The newer system with the triangular horns looked just like a Simplex 2901, but now I am thinking they may have been 4050s, with 2901s filling in certain spots.

Was this an uncommon setup?

In about 1983, my junior high added one like that to their system of Vibratone bowtie horns. This one had a single, straight, triangular trumpet and sounded the same 60 Hz. AC buzz as the others. I think that it was a Faraday.

Maybe the system I am thinking of is the Vibratone bowtie horns? Do you have a pic of the bowtie horns?

I am now thinking the alarms in question were 4050s. There is a video on youtube of a 4050 with triangular horns just like I remember.

Vibratone horns were square-shaped and came in the bi-directional "bowtie" or a straight projector. The horns you are thinking of have the same options but the horn is triangular.

Faraday, which Simplex re-labled many of their products, made those weird diamond shaped Federal knock-off projectors. These were offten paired with Simplex 4050s (AC) and 4051s (DC). I have a 4051 with one of these single projectors, as well as a 4050 I added a Federal PR (single projector) on to, and a current style Federal Vibratone 350 with a PR2 (bow tie). They also make a flush grill the FG, which resembled the old grill style of the Vibratone line with a trim plate. Simplex loved using these with their 4040 horn, which is a re-lbaled Vibratone 350. I have one also, which came with a 4040. Edwards also makes a single and double square projector for their Adaptahorn line, but the single projector has a much wider opening.
