With all of the recent posts about German sirens, I thought everyone would be interested in this link to Hormann.

Very interesting. The most interesting siren in my opinion is their largest electronic siren. It seems very energy efficient and effective.

This video is a fantasy of their ECI units taken to the extreme. At first, not knowing the translation, I thought it may be real. The only problem with building something like this is that the large radiating surface area of the 50 horn arrays on each side would concentrate the sound into nothing more than two very narrow beams of only a few degrees wide.

An old brochure from H?rmann with very much information and detailed pics of their HLS-System :)

The H?rmann has a quite compact head at the costs of lower SPL.
(The really big HLS-heads were built by Pintsch-Bamag and Rickmers-Werft by the way, H?rmann built also a big head before, the F71.

Those HLS sirens look really cool. I like those huge horns, and pneumatic sirens seem to be quite efficient (though I know very little about them since they don't seem to be common outside of Europe).

There are quite a number of them in use in Israel, but they are German. I believe that the Japanese had a similar type too.

Contrary to popular opinion, the effective range of the motor siren is "only" a few hundred metres and not several kilometres.
I'm sure if some of these sound engineers were presented with a Cyclone 125 or a 40V2T, the first words out of their mouths would be, "Guter Gott, was IST dieses Ding!? ".

I think H?rman says such things about the old e57 because they want to sell their new electronic sirens.

We also had motor sirens with 10KW (Sachsenwerk) and 16HP (Dr. Rang, Mix&Genest Berlin)

Btw: What's the SPL of a 40V2T?

The SPL of a 40V2T is 130dB @ 100ft.

...that's a good point too, but from what I've seen - and, take this with salt, because I haven't seen that much - European sirens tend to not follow the classic American formula of Build it BIGGER. They all seem to be between 5-15 horsepower, if that, can't think of a single directional unit off the top of my head, either.

But again - my knowledge on this subject is very limited.
