are they strictly single-toned? i havent found any on youtube that're dual-tone, unless they're sythesized.

Yes, they are strictly single toned, peaking out at 795hz running flat out in continuous mode. Any dual tone clip of a 2001 is fake as Federal Signal does not make such a product.

Yes, from a musical quality, it isn't terribly exciting. But Springfield, MO has a system of them and MAN do they carry. I'm living away from campus this year, and those 2001s roar in a storm. The sound is effectively eerie and attention getting. They're loud. They may not penetrate as well as a T-128 would, but they get the job done. In other words, the 2001 is the Honda of sirens. A car enthusiast might see the Honda as boring, but it gets you from Point A to Point B effectively and reliably.

Like I've said before, I quite like the 2001 personally. From my experience, it's kind of BS what people say about them not carrying - the 2001s here in Denver carry waaay farther than our CL6 Thunderbolts.

Plus they have the best sounding wind-up of any siren, period.

I don't hate 2001 sirens, just the 130 model.

I dont hate any models of the 2001 series,I'm tired of all the bashing done to anything that poses a threat to any CD-era siren.the 2001 get its job done, its probably one of the best sirens currently available on the "siren market." Who cares if it doesn't sound as good as a Thunderbolt or a 2t22 but it gets the job done effectively. Would you rather have a 55 year old rusted out Thunderbolt, or a Brand new 2001-130 protecting your community?

Not worried at all we have 160 new T-128s going up. and plenty of healthy bolts still in operation. I'm more concerned with the newer F.S. radio systems and some of the problems with the software. Indianapolis has been plagued with activation problems with their new system of 2001-130s

Yes we have, and now we're plagued with over-activation since the polygon warning system has been temporary ousted. I think thats the main problem with our system. I've always heard the sirens go off for warnings in my area and the siren outside my work has only failed once in the 28ish weeks I've worked there. I don't know that radio problems are an issue as much as computer software problems.
I've grown up in Indy suburbs with 2001's. They're the sirens I always remember hearing go off for warnings as a kid. In fact, the only time I haven't lived by them were the times I lived on campus at Purdue.
I've personally never really had a problem with 2001s. They really are like Hondas... reliable, last forever, but there's really nothing special to them.

I hope they get that cleared up. That could really cause problems and lack of confidence in the system. We have 32 2001s and 32 T-128s operating now and the rest are T-bolts SD-10s Mod 5s STH-10s STL-10s and P-10/15s. The problem we are having here is not old sirens most of them are actually in really good shape,but the past 2 years Hamilton County EMA has aquired some real dumb dumbs along the way. I reported a mass siren outage in my area 3 months prior to a tornado warning on June 15th. Nothing was done and sirens did not sound. These sirens were showing RF sync error which can be fixed in a matter of minutes,but HCEMA did nothing and blamed it on old equipment(sirens) in a following news story. Nothing was wrong with the sirens.
