The Siren Board

I can't find the information i need abywhere. Tried looking back a few pages and didn't find a post so i appologize if this is a duplicate.

I need to buy two of the most effecient, loudest, highest output siren speakers for my police car. I want 200 watt operation and will be driving them with a unitroll touchmaster siren. I am thinking about purchaseing two Federal Signal TS-100 siren speakers. I know these are loud but we havn't used them in many years. Our department keeps buying the Dynamax speakers. It appears that we are buying these just because they are small. I don't want these speakers behind my grill. i want the sound right out there where it can be heard. I also have used the BP-100 speaker and liked it very much but they are very heavy.

Anyone know shat siren speaker is the loudest?? Do the small sirens pack as much or more punch as the re-entrant cone speakers of the past/.. Help!!!

Usually the larger the speaker housing the better. Here are some that in my opinion would give the best performance. One caveat, no consideration is given to price, availability or mounting practicality. All the following speakers have a 100 watt driver with 11 ohms NOMINAL impedance ( speaker impedance dependent on housing size and shape and tone frequency).

First choice: Whelen Xecutor speaker, 136 db @ one meter
Cons: no longer made, very hard to find, very expensive (I paid $300.00 for mine with a bad driver and was glad to pay it) bulky and heavy (weighs the same as a Q2 mechanical siren)



Second choice: Federal CJ-24 type housing with 100 watt driver, 130 db @ one meter. Years ago almost all the siren manufactures had a similar speaker housing , can be found on surplus/collector market



Third Choice: Federal CP-100 type housing, 128 db @ one meter.



Fourth Choice: TS-100 or MC-100 style housing, 125-127 db @ one meter

You can look here at the Megavox Corp. website and see db output of different type speaker housings, unfortunately, most domestic siren speaker manufactures do not list db output, just power input.

And Atlas Sound data sheet on their TS-100 type speaker, click on the "Data Sheet" and scroll down to the "frequency/amplitude" graph and you can see how the output varies with frequency.

You can have the loudest speaker in the world, but if you mount it behind the grill or bumper, you've cut down the loudness.
If you have a pushbar, you should mount it in the middle on the underside.

great information thanks! and yes my speaker now is a dynamax. it was mounted behind my grill. i moved it to under my pushbar. i want more sound. my buddy has 2 of them on a touchmaster siren. very loud but i think 2 ts-100 siren speakers will be louder or at least have beter tone quality. thanks guys.
