Waldport, Oregon Discontinues Tsunami Sirens

According to the city's website Waldport, Oregon has discontinued using their tsunami warning sirens in favor of a reverse-911 system. http://www.waldport.org/Documents/misc%20files/emergencyinfo.php Other cities on the Oregon coast have been installing or replacing old sirens recently. Hopefully Wa...

It's different, but doesn't carry any urgency to it. I guess as long as everyone knows what that sound means it gets the job done.

What's the tone at 1 minute and 30 seconds? :?: Is that Federal Signals' tone for an air horn? That was simulation/recording of a 55 resonating horn, most likely a custom tone. Sounds like it's used to get your attention and listen to the message. It sounds like a horn used on the scoreboard at a b...

I was going to send an email or something to whoever is in charge over there about the sirens and some other things in general (the Tsunami Exvacuation Route signs are very small and hard to see, even when walking down the sidewalk, etc.). I was also going to mention that the blower was mistimed, wh...

Waldport, Oregon Tsunami Siren Test

Today there was a tsunami evacuation drill on the central Oregon coast that included testing the sirens in several places, including Waldport. Waldport is a small town with two single tone thunderbolts very close together. I think they must have manually activated the sirens because they only sounde...

Uh oh. The end of that news story mentioned that they are replacing their older sirens with new ones that are solar powered. Sounds like bad news for thunderbolts?

Local Hawaii TV is says Civil Defense sirens will sound at 6:00 a.m. local time (which evidently is 8:00 a.m. pacific time). All coastlines are part of the evacuation. Looks like people are already starting to get out of there.
