Creative Engineering on an STH-10

This is a bit of creativity on this STH-10, I guess the old motor burnt out and they replaced it with one that has a belt drive set up between the new motor and the rotor shaft. It is quite creative and very unique looking, this siren is at the Fairplay Fire Department in Fairplay, Md.

Hey that is interesting. it looks like the old motor shaft was utilized,a pulley was found that would fit the old motor shaft & a bracket fabracated to hang the new motor off of..maybe a more cost effective way to use the siren itself without incuring the cost of a motor specific for that siren.....

Yeah, maybe it might be the siren's original motor; it looks just as weather-beaten as the siren, and it looks like the ten-horsepower motor for the STH-10. I'm thinking that something happened to the shaft.
Now, the rotor is probably going to get more air than before. They better have some bearings at the rotor shaft and bracket, or that rotor will fly off!

i can see some unlucky bird some day sitting there on the pully or on the belts and the the siren sounding. still i cool way to fix a siren.

It won't. Perfect example of a quick fix. Anyway, quite a creative use for an otherwise inoperable siren.

Did anyone notice the ratio between the pulleys :shock:

That looks like about a 3:1, so that siren will be spinning 3x as fast as it was with a direct shaft coupling if I am guessing right. I wonder if the rotor can take the G forces, and I wonder if that motor will burn up from the load?

It would be interesteing to hear the pitch of that!!!!!!
