siren+football=AWESOME!

Mon Oct 24, 2011 4:53 am

So for anyone that lives in the greater Houston, Texas area and knows the UH Cougar Football team, at every home game they use a siren for whenever UH gets a touchdown and/or field goal. This particular siren that they use (to me looks like) a Whelen 2802, mounted on a mobile pole that they can haul the siren around to put away for storage. I will put an image of the siren and a video of what tone it uses on YouTube.

(siren starts at about 43 seconds into the video)

Man I wish our collages did that. I would be there at every game.

I didn't know about that one. There is one, however on their radio tower and it can be seen from 45. I believe it is a 2804.

love how it does a single cycle of wail, and when it's finished, it goes to wail again, but it sounds at the end like a cop is stopping their siren

Well, the siren is operated by a student group at the University of Houston (who were probably taught how to activate the siren and shut it off) called "The Frontiersmen".

That's pretty cool. NASA has a ton of those on property. Well they did last time I was there, but that was 1998. :D

When I took NASA's shuttle tour around the property I counted 5 sirens but they were very small, no larger than three cells. NASA is very strict on security, there is no way to get any pictures of them exept by zooming in from the perimeter fence. They won't even let you take pictures during the shuttle tour.
