Storm Takes out one of Norman, OK's old SD-10's.

Wed Nov 09, 2011 11:15 pm

The storms that rolled through Oklahoma this past Monday night spawned tornadoes, flooding and damaging winds and also an earthquake happened to be in there somewhere. The airport and other businesses here in Norman took some pretty significant wind damage and so did one of the cities' still standing inactive SD-10s. It's located at W Rock Creek Rd and Industrial Blvd, I took a drive over to snap some quick pics this afternoon. It appears to have fallen in the street and was moved over into the grass.

I don't think anything is salvageable except for the controller box.

Not even the chopper? It looks at least somewhat intact, considering the housing took the brunt of the fall. How banged up is the motor? Was that taken out after the fall or did it pop out?

Too bad.

I didn't really get a good look at the chopper, but judging by the look of it, it took a pretty hard fall, I'd say the motor flew out, as it had damage too.

Too bad, looks like it was in decent shape before the fall.

Yeah it's screwed. It takes a lot of force to snap that 1 3/8 motor shaft and the 4 bolts that hold it to the stator.

I've already been contacted about the siren's controls/left overs. And will be taking the timers and stuff. I might also take the sd-10 in the bone yard.

Ooh...that's rough. Do you think they'll replace it?

Don't think they'll bother replacing it.
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

its been replaced by a Whelen somewhere near by. I'm thinking about maybe trying to see if there is any hope for the chopper assembly though if the impact was hard enough to take the motor out that bad i would guess the chopper might be cracked.
