I got into my tinkering mood today...

Sat Dec 23, 2006 11:11 pm

Well, I got these two sirens this summer, both federal VG's. I got one working, the other's stator wasn't in good condition, so it sat in a box for a while.
Today, I looked at a synchronous blower motor, and thought "What cool thing can I do with that?" I had this blower wheel on it that kind of sounded like a siren, so...
I made a real one!

It's got the rotor and stator from the VG, and the blower's mounting plate and motor. Sounds great too, it's got a 6 port rotor. I will make a recording sometime tonight!

Sorry about the distortion. It sounds pretty cool in the shop!

If we didn't know that this is a small siren, I would have mistaken this for an air-raid siren. I will never thing of small sirens the same anymore!

That's a characteristic of an induction type motor!
This is the first induction type siren I've ever owned!
I've got a T-1000, a Model-D, another standard VG, and a darley fire truck siren, and none of them sound like this!

I knew something was missing!
I like the black-on-chrome look.
