Azusa, CA: Azusa Pacific's WPS 2903

Sat May 12, 2012 9:14 pm

While I know I've been kind of a stranger on this board, it think that's because there aren't that many active sirens/siren systems here in SoCal. However, Azusa Pacific University has an excellent Whelen Mass Notification system that I'd not known a lot about until recently. However, today I've finally been able to hear a full test!!
AWESOME!!
Here are some pieces of info about today's test, along with what I know about the system:

*Test time was approximately 12 noon. (actually heard the signal at 12:05, though)

*They sounded two full cycles of Wail, followed by a long voice message explaining that it was a test of Azusa Pacific's outdoor notification system, and that it was only a test.
-The cool thing about this is that I could hear it LOUD and CLEAR, and it's only a WPS 2903 (3 drivers), and yet it's 1.15 miles from my house here in the western part of Glendora!! It also sounded like there were TWO, not the one that I'd seen (Likely to have been re-verb due to houses and mountains, but still it was awesome ambiance that reminded me of Plano, TX's system).

*According to the test I've heard today, APU tests their system either on the second or third Saturday of the month (depending on the weather and/or other events).
*The system is used for campus emergencies, and fire evacuations (for forest fires in the Angeles National Forest nearby).
*The system was installed in 2008, spurned on by a desire to improve campus wide communications during emergencies, and the events that had happened at Virginia Tech the year before.

Is there anybody else on here that lives in this area on here other than myself that heard it today? I certainly think it's a very good system that definitely serves it's purposes.
