Despite the dislike of the 2001 (I never was a huge fan of it) I'm kind of gonna miss it. I guess this marks the end of the production of sirens using the Model 3/xt22 12 port rotor when the 2001 is eventually discontinued.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if production has already ceased months ago and only the surplus leftovers are being advertised until they manage to sell those off. After all, no use advertising a dead design alongside its successor unless you have units left over that you need to rid your storage of.

Not to sound like a wishful thinker by any means, but would it be more worth while just saving those sirens for use as replacement parts and other "nuts-n-bolts" in the future? Granted, if it is true that the 2001 will cease production in place of the new 500 series.

If someone needs parts for the 2001, they could likely just make the parts as needed, or, as is commonly seen in the siren industry, try to sell the 508 as a replacement for the broken 2001.

If they still have enough parts to sell full units, then sell off the last bit you can; any parts left over that don't have the required additional parts to supplement them are kept on the shelves as spares, I guess.

I''m going to kind of miss the 2001s. Though the later models were a tad too high, the grew on me. They were pretty nice looking sirens too. However, I 'm glad that they have taken the long awaited step to produce a lower toned siren. I hope some 508s will be installed in my area in the future.

I would think that if Federal is ceasing production of the 2001, and that since it's still a fairly new siren model, that they would continue to manufacture and stock parts for at least the next 5-10 (or more?) years for the thousands of 2001s that are out there, instead of robbing parts off of the remaining 2001s that are in stock. I mean, it's not like the 2001 is outdated technology like the Thunderbolt.

All we have around this area in PA are mostly xt22's and Model x's. I've only found one Thunderbolt in Newberry, PA. I wish I could see different models around here, not that I don't like what we have, its just the same thing everywhere. I was in Baltimore on Tuesday for the Sailabration and as we were climbing to the top deck of one of the battleships I heard what must have been a siren test, I definately heard a 3t22, very healthy sounding, and there were quite a few others I couldn't pick out. And since there were so many buildings around me, I couldn't even find em! Main point being, a 2001 would be a luxury around here

Southaven has a system of 2001-130s, 2001-SRNBs, 2001-SRNs, and 2001-DCs (roundbacks). Not saying that 2001s are bad, in fact, I kind of like them. Especially when the city decides to set them off all in fast wail for a tornado warning (mean ambience). But anyway, I would love to have Thunderbolts and xT22s around here.

I'm also one of those who likes the looks of the 2001, but I never cared for its sound. I'm 48 years old and grew up with the old Federal sirens, especially the T-Bolt, so nothing compares to it, IMHO.

BTW, there's a YouTube video of a slide show of Joplin Before and After the May 22, 2011 Tornado, and one of the "before" slides shows a residential neighborhood and a Thunderbeam is there along the street, and the "after" slide shows the same neighborhood devastated and a smashed up 2001 laying on the ground. Maybe this has been brought up here in the forum before but I haven't seen it. Appologies if it has! If you haven't seen the video, check it out.
