BTW, there's a YouTube video of a slide show of Joplin Before and After the May 22, 2011 Tornado, and one of the "before" slides shows a residential neighborhood and a Thunderbeam is there along the street, and the "after" slide shows the same neighborhood devastated and a smashed up 2001 laying on the ground. Maybe this has been brought up here in the forum before but I haven't seen it. Appologies if it has! If you haven't seen the video, check it out.

One thing I noted in the manual in the drawings is that it says "assemble horn with drain hold in down position." So it looks like water collecting in the intake cone shouldn't be too much of a problem like with the Allertor.

Not to sound like a wishful thinker by any means, but would it be more worth while just saving those sirens for use as replacement parts and other "nuts-n-bolts" in the future? Granted, if it is true that the 2001 will cease production in place of the new 500 series.

well, these things are pretty much "build-to-order." They're not going to waste the time and labor to assemble sirens unless they have a firm purchase order for them. If they have indeed decided to discontinue the 2001, they'll fulfill any outstanding orders and continue to make/stock service and repair parts for however long they need to do so. If they aren't discontinuing the 2001, then the question is moot since they'll still be making parts anyway.

Yes and no. Distributors keep these somewhat in stock. [West Shore, etc.] While it would be unpractical for them to order hundreds of units at a time, I do assume that they keep a decent number. Because sirens don't just fly off the lot, we might see new ones going up for quite awhile after the "official" line is discontinued. They will be making parts for these for several years to come.

EDIT: Confirmed! It looks like they did head out there for the test, and it was a success!
