Do you have any ideas on what to use for setting it off at noon every day? I'm considering one of the old Federal time clocks if I can find one, but I'm guessing that there is probably something much cheaper around.

Setting it off at noon every day is a great way to get people used to (not afraid of) its roar. Tests should be conducted no more often than once weekly, even better once per 2 weeks or once per month.

Yeah, it's called a sprinkler timer and an Artisan time capsule (time delay). We use that on our sirens around here and it works like a charm.

Okay, the siren is up and I'm going off to record it in two hours or so. I can't wait to hear the old thing scream!

Neither can I! Your video will be the first video ever of a dual-rotor Type B.

Just got everything edited and I'm exporting now. It sounded great! I have some more news about things now. Currently they're just using a light switch and a phase converter, plus something interesting. Recently the fire department, which is part of a fire district and not the city, moved to a new building, donating the old one to the city. As it turns out, there was a Federal Signal RC-2 still in there even though the siren, which the mayor had forgot about, had been removed years ago. I'm going to guess it was a Model 2. I'll get a link to the videos and to the pictures when everything is uploaded.

Note that this is a 1,800 RPM motor. Putting a 3,500 RPM motor on this would create a ridiculously-high pitch.

Matt has a video of one going off as well, oddly also for a 6PM blast.
