Venice Flood Siren - The Weirdest Siren in the World?

Wed Nov 28, 2012 3:32 pm

Does this electronic siren in Venice, Italy win the prize for the weirdest siren in the World?

3-tone sounding from sirens.

It is pretty weird sounding! Cool sounding too, whether it wins, I don't know. There may be something else out there that sounds weirder, you never know.

It puts together all of the tones of a 10/12 port siren in both 50 and 60 hz into a high/middle/low signal that phases very quickly. That's pretty eerie and downright weird, but I definitely like it.
What happened when Napoleon went to Mt. Olive? Popeye got pissed.

It's different, but doesn't carry any urgency to it. I guess as long as everyone knows what that sound means it gets the job done.

Sounds sorta like a cordless phone ringing.

The weirdest sounding sirens in the world have to be the Mods in the Netherlands...They have a custom whoop tone, which rises in overall pitch every cycle.

As you say, it dosen't carry urgency. It conveys more of come out, play and splash about in the water, rather than batten down the hatches. Maybe it is done not to frighten the tourists, but it is still "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" freaky.

This might be a more calmly flood warning signal.
