Mobil-Directo Pictures (on the ground)

I`ve been meaning to upload these pictures I`ve had since last August when, ironically I was going to stop at a gas station to go get fuel to make the 90 minute drive to record a 2910, but I noticed a local school that had a Mobil-Directo on it was missing the siren. About a week before I had seen flags on the roof from a contractor about to replace the roof. I knew those flags from two years ago when another MD dissappeared from another school when the roof was done. So seeing the siren gone and having a little extra time my dad and I looked around the school to see if the siren was nearby and sure enough the entire set-up, the pole, siren, power box,etc. was sitting on the ground behind the school. Now before anybody says I should try to get it, I talked to the guy in charge of the schools, he said a local demolition/trucking company was coming to get it. My dad knew the owner of the company and talked to him but we never had been able to get it. I believe someone he knew wanted it so I`m hoping to have perfect timing again for when another one is removed. It is 10/12 port dual toned, has a 10HP 3 phase motor and is easily 3 times bigger than I ever pictured. Here is the link to the photos of it sitting on the ground. It was taken about 2 weeks later and have heard nothing about it since. This siren was located at Mary Walsh School in Springfield, MA and was the closest MD to my house.

They sure are! I wish I had it, those platforms are so cool, always wanted to stand on one next to one of these sirens. I thought these sirens were like 1/2 the size that it was but I guess I was way off.

Wow it's got the work platform too! These things are easily 700+ pounds. The steel on them is like a wells fargo truck.

But you can fit one in the bed of a Dodge Dakota!

Every siren seems small in till it?s on the ground! Some of my best memories with sirens are going on rooftops and seeing them on there original state untouched for years. When I put my Mobil Directo on my driveway it was still on its 3 foot stand and man did it look huge. It was basically as tall as my house and could climb it like a jungle gym to get on my roof!
