Oakland County, MI tornado Siren Test Cancelled Today

Wed Apr 10, 2013 3:23 pm

Today's scheduled tornado siren test has been cancelled, reportedly due to the weather. Additional information is expected shortly. Today was to be our NSWAW test, but with the Special Weather Statement in affect for strong thunderstorms, there will be no siren test today -- to avoid confusion.

What a shame. Im off work, and wanted to record how the 2001 sounds from my balcony, since I live so close to the Royal Oak Fire Department, now.

I heard the most interesting thunder early this morning. the lightning which preceded it was pretty bright but the thunder still took several seconds to arrive. when it did it was just a low, building rumble that felt almost more like a mild earthquake. even more so thanks to the rattling of the light fixtures and wallhangings.

I saw that lightning from my window. Not much more than heavy rain here though.

I was up in Southfield, and my friend told me that the NWS had decided to cancel the Test Tornado Warning. I decided at that point there was no sense in hanging around the area so I came home. I wonder if Oakland County will test their sirens again tomorrow, or just wait until the first Saturday of next month?

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

If there is any significant weather in my area on the day a siren test is scheduled (I have to assume during most months, it's on the First Tuesday of the month at 10 AM for my area), they cancel it until the next month. Same probably goes for Radio & TV testing too.
