Simplex Mechanical School Bells

Fri Aug 02, 2013 12:22 am

These are located at Weatherly Heights Elementary School. Weatherly Heights Elementary School is a public school, so I'm surprised that these are still in use because the mechanical bells at the other public schools I've seen and been to are no longer used.

This bell doesn't work:

This one barely works. It mostly misses, but it gets out a few good rings:

My elementary schools in California had outdoor bells like these, but about half of them did not work. In the office, next to the master clock, there was almost always a small pegboard where each individual bell could be put on one or more of several circuits. If the plug was missing, that bell didn't ring.
