I live up the street from them... Nothing to get too excited over, but nice to live close enough to be in ear-shot.
They sound: Reveille at 0700 M-F, Test Every Friday at 1200, Retreat at 1700 M-F, and lights out at 2200 7 days/week. If a tornado or funnel is spotted on/near base, they sound a 3 minute steady (Alert) tone.
There is also a voice-alert from Command Post unit warning airmen of lightning, since the landing strips are a barren area void of trees or even shelter nearby, naturally.
PS: Prior to the mid-90s, Peterson AFB had Thunderbolts on base.
Cimarron Hills VFD at Palmer Park Blvd & Peterson Road once had a FS T-Bolt 1003 behind the station, with the green stand still standing there to this day. Would be a great place for a rebuilt Thunderbolt 1000T siren.
Still close enough to a Fed Sig 550AT to drive out on test day: First Friday in May - 7PM!
As of April 15 2010, a certified NWS Skywarn Spotter.
