Assuming that the visual of the siren itself is incorrect - could you listen to these two clips for me (I must admit my tonal hearing isn't perfect since an operation - but these two clips sound v similar).

First is the siren from the film Silent Hill posted on youtube -

The second is my recording of the St Malo test in France -

Taking into account various film echo effects (such as the supposed close up of the siren - and the fact that this scene was filmed in a studio), what cemented my thought that there might be a link between the Silent Hill film and the French warning system is that the Director of the film Christophe Gans is French - so maybe he used a sound effect from his country.

Interesting find here. They do sound very similar. The siren in Silent Hill could be speakers in the horns which broadcast this siren model.

Well, in terms of movie production, that could be what they did. In terms of silent hill, no. The coal fire started 30 years before the time in the movie, so the siren would not be electronic. I have no clue how that thing would work, it seems as if all the power in the town has been cut off. That french siren does sound very similar to that! In the second silent hill game you can clearly hear a STL-10, which saves your life! (which is how i got interested in sirens in the first place)

The 'siren' was surely made in the props department to look weird and, I'd bet the rent, makes no sound at all.

I bet that I could take some angled air horns, and attach them to a home made housing for a model 2 or 3 to make that siren. Seems how the siren makes a almost instant wind-up, there would have to be a damper stopping air while the siren gets up to speed.

Surely the siren is a prop fake.
Much film sound is recorded some other place/created some other way and and incorporated into the film.

Yes, that is indeed fake, but could be made with a lot of time and money.

There was a six-horned siren made by Hedberg in the 1930's, but the horns were very short like those of an air horn, and the pitch would have been about one whole step lower than in the Silent Hill clip, which was either borrowed from a French siren or an STL-10.
