2001-130 in Ontario

Wed Sep 18, 2013 2:55 pm

The Township of Woolwich in the Region of Waterloo has purchased a 2001-130 siren and it will be installed shortly in the community of Breslau on the outskirts of Kitchener.

I think this will make the second 2001 in Canada with the other being in Altona, MB.

Add two more, Winkler, MB had two installed back in May. There are probably more around Canada, just have to find them.

At the community centre on Woolwich St, and it'll probably be tested every Saturday at noon. People on the east side of Kitchener will definitely be able to hear it! St. Jacobs will be the next town to get a new siren, so I wonder if it will be another 2001, or even a 508.

Thank you! St. Jacobs, just hearing that makes me sad, because of the main barn. I hope someone gets a 508, I also hope Niagara gets some here soon.

I think Cadet training centers should get better sirens, we had a tornado warning (July 19th) and one of their electronic sirens went- BOOM!

New information.

CTV Kitchener has reported that a siren will be installed shortly in the community of St. Jacobs in Woolwich Township. Checking to confirm what kind of siren will be going up. St. Jacobs is about 1 mile or 1.6 kilometres north of Waterloo. Also, the city of Kitchener has put out a bulletin regarding the 2001-130 going up in Breslau on the outskirts of Kitchener. The bulletin is advising residents in the Stanley Park area that they may hear the siren during tornado warnings or tests, and that residents should sign up for the reverse-911 system that Woolwich Township operates for information as to why they hear the siren in an emergency.

The 2001 was installed in Breslau late last year. All my email inquiries have not been answered for over a month now, and the township has not updated their website emergency management section. The siren is tested every other Monday in the evening, no idea what time or what weeks.

Picture on Twitter of the siren:

As for St. Jacobs, the township will use the existing siren at the fire department (which was decommissioned in 2007) which I believe is a Model 3.
