Ft. Benning 2001s and Other Arrays

Sun Sep 29, 2013 11:31 pm

This is a continuation of my SD-10 post. I wanted to break it apart.
Benning is slowly removing some of the 2001s; it seems that they will leave them on their towers until construction happens and the sirens are in the way, since I couldn't spot one on Main Post and they're only in older areas. On the flip side, those weird looking arrays still stand; there is no brand markings anywhere on the boxes or heads (I noticed that someone posted a pic of one in the Mystery Sirens thread from Fort Leavenworth). My grandfather says that the base used to play music at times of the day; maybe these were the arrays that were used (they are really colse together). Check out the pictures below.
I did tour the speaker array, and the video will be uploaded later.

This one is about 3/4 of a mile down the street and is next to a now unused check point. You can hear it in this video @ 2:00: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hly0uH8qAUE (Not mine)
It is still hooked up to the grid.

This is the Whelen that somewhat replaced both. It isn't even a good year old.

These sirens have been pointing the same way for as far as I can remember; there are houses in the path of sound from the sirens.
Here are the pics of the arrays:Image

Your mystery arrays are ADT Clear Warning systems (yes, that ADT).

It looks like ADT has left mass notification as quickly as they entered it; I can't find anything about ADT's commercial unit anymore. I tried seeing if any other Tyco subsidiaries picked it up and I can't find anything other than that SimplexGrinnell resells ASC and Cooper products. Thankfully, all the literature is still available.

I'll post this over in the Mystery Sirens thread, too, so there's a stickied record of this.

What were they thinking when they made that mounting platform. It's a 2001, not a P-50.

Ft. Bliss, TX also has those ADT speakers. I have seen a couple in my recent trips to El Paso. Their primary system seems to be Modulators now.
He died.
