I had the same thought! Now that I think about it, using a dolly like he did actually makes moving something like that bearable. Thats how I move a number of my sirens around, either a dolly like that or I use my shop crane.

Indeed! Without that dolly, moving the 2001 would have been a serious chore. Even on the dolly, it was still a bit of work because of how awkward the 2001 is. Oh, and tipping it back took every bit of counter-weight I had. One leg as far back as I could kick, and Miley Cyrus status with my rear end!

There sure is a lot of surface rust for a siren of this age. Did they use galvanized sheet metal?

I'm pretty sure none of the sheet metal is galvanized on this one. I have a fair amount of clean-up to do here. Probably better off just media blasting the whole thing and either painting it with a good automotive paint OR forking over the bucks to have it powder coated.

Oh yeah. That amount of rust on an older 2001 is typical. That one actually looks pretty good comparatively. Any roundback, in particular, I've seen is covered in rust. The boxes on the ones in DeKslb, IL had turned completely to rust all over.

Well that explains the rusting problem on these newer Federals, especially the model 2s. You would think they would have continued to use galvanized sheet metal like they did on the Thunderbolts instead of taking the cheap way out, considering the high prices they're charging for the 2001s.

How does the horn size on that 2001 compare to a Thunderbolt?

The horn on the 2001 is not quite as deep as a Thunderbolt's horn but otherwise they're very comparable in size. I'm going to take the 2001 apart later this week and get it down into my basement. I'll reassemble it next to one of my Thunderbolts and post some pics.
