My STL-10 and ACA P-10

Sun Oct 27, 2013 11:26 pm

I'm sure most of you seen these on facebook but for the few people here that don't have fb this is for you.

Yesterday I drove to Springville PA to pick up a STL-10. I had offered the Chief $100 for it a while back and was finally able to drive up and get it. I hop out of the truck and walk back to the siren and my wife says "hey look" and points behind me. I turn around and there sits a ACA P-10 and control cabinet. Told the wife I was gonna ask what it's deal was and see what was said. The chief gets there and looks up at their new 7v8 and says "you can't have that one" and laughs. I said "well what's the deal with the other one back there?" he says "If you want it and can fit in your truck you can give me 100 bucks for both". He originally said they wanted to keep the controls then said screw it if you can get it in your truck take them too. I had my dad's Dakota with a cap on it so it was a little tricky getting it in there, we made everything fit though (had to loosen the cap to get it back out lol)

So here is the STL. It was removed because it suddenly stopped working

The P-10 is single phase, single toned. I believe he said it was from out of state. I'll have to ask him again where it came from. He said it as given to them.

Counter for something, it is wired to a antenna connection. I didn't take the antenna though

I don't have a facebook account, don't plan on getting one unless I need it badly. $100 for those sirens=GOOD DEAL to me. :)
I thought there were no single toned P-10s; something about the chopper being to big for the motor.

Holy Smokes that control cabinet has too much going on in there for my liking! At least you got the whole set up though and don't have to guess on the caps, awesome haul!

They were made, but the big chopper was harsh on the motor. Some people said they shouldn't be made.
What was the P-10 used for? Tornado or flood or something?

That's a steal, two sirens for $100!

Also neat how the P-10 is single tone.

My bet is that's a later model siren and it has the Baldor motor. They did make some single tone 10 horsepower sirens but they didn't have very long lifespans, since that poor motor was really overworked trying to push that big rotor. Seems like ACA went through this with both Doerr and Baldor. First they tried the 10 horse, but then switched to the 15.

I'm wondering if maybe it was an old power plant siren somewhere

..and it is single phase, too! Now, that is something you don't see everyday...

Uh yeah it's very common. The majority of the Penetrator sirens I've seen are single phase.

Think he meant you don't see a single-tone, single-phase Penetrator very often.
